DIVILLI

Category Connections

Group the words by their shared theme

About this game

Category Connections shows 16 shuffled words that actually belong to 4 groups of 4 — finding what links each group (a theme, a category, a shared trait) exercises semantic memory: the part of memory that stores meanings and associations between ideas.

Getting a group wrong never restarts the game: the wrong guess simply returns to the board, marked briefly, and you can try again at your own pace.

FAQ

What is semantic memory and why does this game exercise it?

It's the type of memory responsible for meanings, categories and relationships between concepts (for example, knowing that apple and banana are both fruits). Grouping words by a shared theme calls on exactly that kind of association.

What happens if I get a group wrong?

Nothing serious: the chosen words flash briefly to show that group isn't right, then return to the board so you can try again — there's no penalty beyond using an attempt.
